Families affected by floods, landslides in Zamboanga City receive food packs from GMA Kapuso Foundation
The incessant heavy rains in Zamboanga City the past few weeks have caused floods and landslides in the area, leaving thousands of families affected.
According to a "24 Oras" report, Tuesday, a landslide destroyed two houses in Barangay Pamucutan, which saw four fatalities in its wake. Two of them were resident Roseller Ortega's wife and seven-year-old son.
Per Ortega, he was up on the mountain at night working when the tragedy struck.
Other families were also affected by the flooding in the area.
Amid the heavy rains, the GMA Kapuso Foundation took to Barangays Pamucutan and Ayala in Zamboanga City to distribute food packs to the affected families.
Around 1,000 households received the food packs, which were repacked and distributed with the help of the Western Mindanao Command of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
"Kailangan nila matulungan na makapatayo ulit, makaumpisa ulit," said Col. Rey Pasco, Unified Staff for Civil Military Operations. "Kung meron mga trahedya, mga calamities andiyan kaagad 'yung GMA Kapuso. Kami sa Armed Forces, nag-facilitate lang kami kung ano 'yung pwde naming maitulong."
To support more of GMA Kapuso Foundation's projects, donations may be made via Metrobank, Land Bank, BDO, Bank of Commerce, UnionBank, PNB, Cebuana Lhuillier, GCash, Lazada, and Shopee. Go here for more information.
