Sonny Angara, Tootsy Angara walk the red carpet for SONA 2024

New Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Sonny Angara and his wife Tootsy Angara have arrived at President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.'s State of the Nation Address (SONA) at the Batasang Pambansa Complex in Quezon City.

Tootsy donned a modern blush Filipiniana gown with gem-encrusted butterfly sleeves by Mark Bumgarner. Meanwhile, Secretary Angara wore an embroidered Barong Tagalog.

Secretary Angara officially resigned as senator last Thursday and assumed his position as DepEd secretary on July 19, Friday. Angara was supposed to end his two terms in the Senate in 2025 prior to his appointment to the DepEd.

President Marcos is set to deliver his third SONA, scheduled at 4 p.m, Monday. Politicians and their guests from across the Philippines are set to attend the event.

Some of the current pressing issues in the country include the rising conflict in the West Philippine Sea against global superpower China, which has prompted Manila to lodge diplomatic protests against Beijing, and officials from both countries to hold a bilateral meeting to manage the ongoing disputes in the region.
