GMA Integrated News joins East-West Center International Media Conference

Further solidifying its status as the most credible and most trusted multi-media news organization in the country, GMA Integrated News (GMAIN) participated in the East-West Center International Media Conference from June 24 to 26 at the PICC in Pasay City.

With the theme “Future of Facts,” the East-West Center International Media Conference focused on key issues involving the media industry, including the role of artificial intelligence in journalism, climate reporting, and the challenges faced by journalists in the Asia-Pacific region.

GMA Integrated News Consultant and GMA News Online Editor-at-Large Howie Severino, Senior Reporter Mariz Umali, GMAIN Social Media Manager Audrey Domasian, and Social Media Team Acting Assistant Manager Theodore Ortiz were at the frontline in various break-out sessions during the three-day conference attended by journalists, experts, and leaders from various countries across the world.

Severino participated in the plenary on “Reporting at Global Crossroads.” The award-winning broadcast journalist was among the six senior regional journalists who discussed developing trends and challenges for media professionals in the Asia-Pacific region.

Umali and Ortiz, meanwhile, conducted a breakout session titled “Building Trust and Digital Strategies for Traditional Newsrooms.” The session revolved around effective strategies for combating disinformation while harnessing the power of social media.

Finally, Domasian highlighted in a panel discussion the importance of pre-bunking more than debunking misinformation to better equip online users with facts.

The East-West Center International Media Conference, held every two years in a major regional media hub, offers a unique professional networking opportunity for journalists from the US, Asia, and the Pacific to discuss key issues in the region and common challenges and trends in media.

This year, the  Philippines was chosen as the host of the conference being one of the countries with the most number of social media users where fake news is prevalent.
