Joanna Ampil joins cast of West End's 'Phantom of the Opera'

Theater and film actress Joanna Ampil is now part of the cast of "The Phantom of the Opera" in the West End.

Joanna marked the "surreal" milestone on social media by sharing a photo of her and the cast onstage His Majesty's Theatre in London.

"'The Phantom Of The Opera' is a huge tick off my bucket list. It’s one of those shows from my generation that I’ve always wanted to do," she wrote.

Joanna joins the cast as Italian prima donna Carlotta Giudicelli, a role that she described as "a dream to sing and play."

"I auditioned for the show almost a couple of decades ago and it just wasn’t the right time to be in it then. But 2024-25 Phantom cast it is!!!" she added. "I cannot wait to work with these amazing members of the creative and production teams, cast, crew, and theatre legends!"

Joanna isn't the only new addition to West End impresario Cameron Mackintosh's production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's "The "Phantom of the Opera."

On social media, the production announced its the new cast members, which also include Dean Chisnall as The Phantom, Martin Ball as Monsieur Firmin, Helen Hobson as Madame Giry, Mille Lyon as Meg Giry, and more. Eve Shanu-Wilson will also play the role of Christine Daaé at certain performances.

Continuing in the show are Lily Kerhoas as Christine Daaé, alongside Joe Griffiths-Brown as Raoul, Adam Linstead as Monsieur André, David Kristopher-Brown as Piangi.

The new cast of "The Phantom of the Opera" will open beginning July 29 at His Majesty's Theatre. "The Phantom of the Opera" will run at the theater until March 2025 after it was extended anew.

Joanna is a leading theater actress on the international stage. She has starred in various productions in the West End and international tours, notably as Kim in "Miss Saigon," Éponine and Fantine in "Les Miserables," Mary Magdalene in the West End revival of "Jesus Christ Superstar," and Grizabella in "Cats," among many others.

In 2022, she was cast as the first female Engineer in Sheffield Theatre's reimagined "Miss Saigon," which was staged the following year. The Engineer, originally played by a man, is known as a hustler and the owner of the nightclub Dreamland in Saigon.
