'Iti Mapukpukaw' wins Best Feature Film at 17th IAFF Animator in Poland

The critically acclaimed Filipino animated film "Iti Mapukpukaw (The Missing)" just won another award!

The full-length rotoscope animated film bagged the Best Feature Film award at the recently concluded 17th International Animated Film Festival (IAFF) Animator held from June 25 to 30 in Poznan, Poland.

"Iti Mapukpukaw (The Missing)," written and directed by Carl Joseph Papa, follows the story of Eric, a Filipino animator who does not have a mouth and whose memories get untangled with the arrival of an alien. It stars Carlo Aquino, Dolly de Leon, and Gio Gahol.

On social media, film production company Project 8 Projects celebrated the win, calling it a triumph of Filipino animators.

"The film takes home the Best Feature Film award, a big win for Filipino animators! Thank you, Animator!" Project 8 wrote.

The film was in competition under IAFF Animator's International Feature category and won over Hungarian director László Csáki's animated documentary "Pelikan Blue."

Meanwhile, Izabela Plucinska's "Joko" won the Grand Prix or Golden Pegasus Award in the International Short Film Competition, making it eligible for the selection of the annual Academy Awards in the Animated Short Film category. "Eeva" by Morten Tšinako and Lucija Mrzljak won the Silver Pegasus award, whereas "Zima" by Kasumi Ozeki and Tomek Popakul won the Bronze Pegasus.

"Iti Mapukpukaw (The Missing") has won several film awards, most recently the Best Picture, Best Sound, and Best Animation awards at the 47th Gawad Urian Awards held early this June.

It also won the Best Editing award at the 72nd Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS) Awards in May. The film has been nominated for various awards at the upcoming 40th Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC) Star Awards and 7th Eddy Awards. It is also an official selection at this year's New York Asian Film Festival, opening at the Lincoln Center on July 21.

"Iti Mapukpukaw (The Missing)" was the Philippines' entry to the 96th Academy Awards under the Best International Feature Film category, although it missed making the shortlist.

The film is available to stream on Netflix!

The IAFF Animator is known as the largest animated film festival in Poland, its first edition kicking off in 2008. Each year, the IAFF Animator screens more than 300 animated films from the world over, with the aim to mainstream knowledge, heritage, and innovations in animated cinematography.
