Vilma Santos' nomination for National Artist endorsed by Aktor PH, more

Aktor PH led the endorsement of Vilma Santos' nomination to be hailed as a National Artist for Film and Broadcast.

According to Lhar Santiago’s report on “24 Oras,” Friday, within a span of six decades, Vilma made major contributions to the Philippines' showbiz industry.

She is among the stars who has garnered the most acting awards for her films, which include "Trudis Liit," "Darna," "Dyesebel," "Bata, Bata... Paano ka Ginawa?" "Dekada '70," "Anak," and more.

Before she entered politics, she also had a television variety show.

Aside from Aktor PH, over 20 other organizations and individuals from the education and entertainment sectors are pushing for Vilma’s endorsement.

“May ongoing movement na eh. Hindi lang naman ito nagsimula sa amin, and I’m sure matagal na ito. Gaya ng nabanggit ko kanina, may 20 plus organizations that are also pushing for this and we're just one of them,” Aktor PH board member Dingdong Dantes said.

The Kapuso Primetime King said that it is time to bestow the National Artist title on Vilma, whom he called a “cultural champion."

“She’s a protector of the community and, most importantly, a nation builder. Kung mayroon kang mga ganitong guiding principles, exemplified and brought to life literally by a person in the person of Vilma Santos, at sasabihin mo, ‘Ito ‘yung pamantayan eh,’” he said.

Dingdong also said in the report that there has been no communication yet between Aktor PH and Vilma regarding the nomination.

GMA Integrated News is still reaching out to Vilma for her reaction.
