Amsterdam Rainbow Dress to be displayed in QC mall in solidarity with Filipino LGBTQ+

Amsterdam Rainbow Dress to be displayed in QC mall in solidarity with Filipino LGBTQ+

The iconic Amsterdam Rainbow Dress will be exhibited from June 25 to 26 at the Trinoma Activity Center in Quezon City. This is its first-ever public display in Southeast Asia.

The rainbow dress is an iconic symbol of LGBTQIA+ rights and resilience the world over. Recently, Filipino queer icon and "It's Showtime" host Vice Ganda wore the dress at the LoveLaban2Everyone: Pride PH Festival in Quezon Memorial Circle over the weekend.

The upcoming exhibit is a show of international solidarity with the Filipino LGBTQIA+ community and staunch support for the Philippines' fight for equality and non-discrimination, per Pride PH.

The Amsterdam Rainbow Dress, created by Arnout van Krimpen, features the flags of countries where being a member of the LGBTQIA+ community is punishable by law, including eight countries where homosexual acts can lead to the death penalty.

Meanwhile, the flag of Amsterdam is also used in the dress to symbolize the Netherlands as a longstanding supporter and safe haven for persecuted members of the LGBTQIA+ community.

The Amsterdam Rainbow Dress exhibit was made possible by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Manila and Pride PH, in partnership with Ayala Malls Trinoma, the Amsterdam Rainbow Dress Fondation, PANTAY, and Babaylanes Inc.

The exhibit's ceremonial ribbon-cutting will be held tomorrow, June 25, at 1 p.m.
