Dia de Manila: Heritage talks, art markets, more on Escolta this June

Escolta, Manila's famed queen of streets, will be teeming with art and heritage events this June in celebration of the city's 453rd founding anniversary on June 24.

Nilad Community, an umbrella organization of heritage and tour guiding groups, alongside The Art District Gallery, will be holding Dia de Manila from June 22 to 23, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., at The Art District Gallery in Calvo Building, Escolta Street in Binondo.

Entrance is free to the event, which will comprise heritage talks, art markets, a sketching session, and historical reenactments from cosplayers.

Just some of the creatives who'll be selling their artworks at the Dia de Manila include Manila Girls, Renacimiento Manila, Ulric de Guzman Photography, Inkit by KitCraftPh, and Paper Friends MNL.

Architects Riel Diala and Ysa Peñas, as well as public historian Xiao Chua, to name a few, will also grace Dia de Manila to talk about heritage conservation, architectural queer heritage, and public history.

Attendees can also look forward to joining the event's heritage tours: a Binondo Food Trip & Hopia Making Session and an Escolta-Binondo Sketch Walk on the first day, then an Escolta-Heritage Tour, Museum, and Gallery Hopping and a Pasig River Heritage Appreciation Walk on the second day.

The "Manila x Bohol" exhibit by The Art District Gallery and the Bohol-Buhol art group will also be on view at the gallery until June 29.
