67-year-old lola heads to college, pursues journalism degree

At the age of 67, Lolita Escal is feeling excited to enter college and pursue a degree in journalism.

According to Raffy Tima's report on "24 Oras," Wednesday, Lola Lolita took her entrance exam at the University of Rizal System Angono Campus and made it to the Top 5 of exam takers.

She said that her inspiration is her only child who passed away three years ago, the reason for her to finish high school where she became schoolmates with her grandchildren.

"Minsan kung 'di ko alam, nagpapaturo ako sa kanila. Minsan nagtatanong sila sa akin lalo na pagdating sa research 'yung Grade 11 namin," she said.

Lola Lolita finished elementary school five decades ago.

She stopped studying after her employer assaulted her in their province, Agusan del Norte.

"Natakot na ako eh, akala ko 'di na ako maka-recover. Nagtrabaho na lang ako," she said.

Lola Lolita said that there were people who doubted her when she decided to study again.

"Uy, may edad ka na, saan mo pa gagamitin 'yan? Wala ka na talagang ano dyan, ganun ka na lang," she recalled them saying.

However, she did not let them sway her from her chosen path.

"Ang tao kasi buhay pa eh, may future pa, 'pag wala nang future 'pag patay na, hangga't buhay, tuloy," she said.
