Pelikulaya 2024: FDCP to screen LGBTQ+ films starting June 19

Happy Pride!

The Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) will be holding "Pelikulaya" this June in celebration of Pride Month.

FDCP announced via social media on Saturday that Pelikulaya's curated lineup of films comprising Filipino classics and award-winning movies will be screened from June 19 to 30.

"Through storytelling that amplifies the diverse experiences and identities within the  LGBTQIA+ community, Pelikulaya's lineup acknowledges the struggles of the past but also celebrates the resilience and vibrancy of queer lives today," said FDCP.

Just some of the full-length films to look forward to are Lino Brocka's "Ang Tatay Kong Nanay," Nick De Ocampo's "Oliver," Jun Lana's "About Us But Not About Us" and "Becky and Badette," Jay Altarejos' "Kasal," Ryan Machado's "Huling Palabas," and more.

Japanese director Hirokazu Kore-eda's "Monster" and Belgian film director Lukas Dhont's "Close" will also be screened during Pelikulaya, as well as a short film set including seven films by Filipino directors.

Most of the films are free admission, except for the screenings of "Huling Palabas" and "Close" in Cinematheque Centers nationwide, which are priced at P150 and P200, respectively.

Pelikulaya will be held in various cinemas, including Robinson's Movieworld Galleria; the Cinematheque Centres in Manila, Iloilo, Davao, Negros, and Nabunturan; and the Metropolitan Theater.
