Who is Eva Darren? 5 facts about the veteran actress

Eva Darren has recently made headlines when the 72nd Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS) allegedly snubbed her as a presenter during the awards night held on Sunday.

Eva’s son, Dr. Fernando de la Pena, expressed his disappointment to the award-giving body on social media, which the FAMAS organization quickly addressed by offering their apologies and intent to make amends.

In case you didn’t know who Eva is, here are five facts about the Filipina veteran actress who certainly made a mark on the Philippine TV and movie industry.

1. She is a 1969 FAMAS Award recipient as Best Supporting Actress

Eva was named Best Supporting Actress for the film “Ang Pulubi” at the 1969 FAMAS Awards. In the film directed by Luis Nepomuceno, Eva starred alongside Charita Solis, Anita Linda, and Gloria Sevilla. 

2. She was nominated at the FAMAS Awards thrice

Before taking home a FAMAS Award in 1969 for “Ang Pulubi,” Eva was also nominated for Best Supporting Actress for the 1967 film “Ang Langit Sa Lupa” and the 1968 film “Igorota.” 

3. She won Best Supporting Actress award at the 1969 Manila Film Festival

Eva also received another Best Supporting Actress award from Manila Film Festival for the movie “Ang Pulubi” in 1969. 

4. She was nominated as Best Supporting Actress at the 1998 Gawad Urian Awards

Eva was nominated Best Supporting Actress in the critically acclamed film “Ligaya Ang Itawag Mo Sa Akin” at the 1998 Gawad Urian Awards. 

Directed by Carlitos Siguion-Reyna, the 1997 film follows the story of a farmer, portrayed by John Arcilla, who tries to help a prostitute, played by Rosanna Roces, to change her lifestyle. 

5. She starred in two GMA TV series 

Aside from her remarkable work in films, Eva also ventured out on TV. She starred in the GMA TV series “The Rich Man’s Daughter” in 2015 and “Wish I May” in 2016. 

Directed by Dominic Zapata, “The Rich Man’s Daughter” starred Rhian Ramos, Glaiza de Castro, and Katrina Halili, among others.

Meanwhile, “Wish I May” was top-billed by Bianca Umali and Miguel Tanfelix.
