Technician from Pangasinan installs water sprinklers on his roof amid extreme heat

A technician residing in Pangasinan came up with the bright idea of installing water sprinklers on his roof as a way to lessen the extreme heat felt inside his house.

In Kuya Kim's report on "24 Oras," Thursday, Warren Novio said that he was trying different experiments to help cool his home.

Before attaching the sprinklers, the roof's temperature would reach 61°C, while the rooms inside their house would reach 37-38°C.

Once he opened the sprinklers, the roof's temperature would go down to 32-45°C, and 31-34°C inside the house.

The water Warren uses is from their deep well, while the power the sprinklers use is from the solar panels he installed. This way, his electricity and water bill is not affected.

Weather specialist Benison Estareja explained that this method is effective in lowering temperature because the roof's heat transfers to the water from the sprinklers.

"Siyempre kapag nilagyan natin ng tubig 'yung mainit na galvanized steel roof, then definitely maglo-lower 'yung temperature ng roof," he said.

"Magta-transfer 'yung heat from the roof papunta doon sa tubig na galing doon sa garden sprinklers. 'Yung tubig na 'yun bababa siya dito sa lupa. 'Yun 'yung principle kung bakit nababawasan 'yung init ng roof and eventually nababawasan yung init ng loob ng bahay," he added.

According to Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), hot temperatures are expected in the country until mid-May.

Several locations in the country have experienced over 40°C heat index since the dry season officially began.
