GMA execs Bernice Sibucao, Rodelio Arenas among 2024 JournalismAI Fellows

GMA Network executives Bernice Marie S. Sibucao and Rodelio Arenas have been named among this year’s JournalismAI Fellows of London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).

Sibucao, Senior Manager and Deputy Head of the Digital Strategy and Innovation Lab, and Arenas, Assistant Vice President for Information Technology and Data Privacy, were among the 297 applicants from all over the world who showed interest in the fellowship. The applicants were shortlisted into 40 journalists and technologists based on their project proposals and strengths.

Both Sibucao and Arenas are under the IntelliNewsComparer team. IntelliNewsComparer, a GenAI-based document comparison tool, will “employ machine learning to semantically compare text documents in English, Finnish, and Tagalog,” LSE said.

Sibucao and Arenas are joined by two other fellows from Finland, developer Elisa Bestetti and data producer Paivi Ala-Risku.

There are six other groups in the 2024 JournalismAI, including AURA, Know Your Leader, CheckMate, and others.

A project of LSE’s Polis and supported by the Google News Initiative, JournalismAI is a “global initiative that empowers news organisations to use artificial intelligence responsibly.”
