Isabel Oli reveals nearly giving up on her relationship with John Prats before getting engaged

Isabel Oli revealed she nearly broke up with John Prats before he proposed to her.

On Friday’s “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda,” Isabel said she watched a documentary that talked about marriage proposals.

“Kung hindi pa daw mag-propose sa’yo ‘yung guy in a year, medyo magisip-isip ka na daw. Eh nung time na ‘yon, parang two years na kami ni John,” she said.

[According to the documentary, if your partner doesn't propose to you, you better think twice. At that time, John and I had been together for two years.]

“Sabi ko ‘Ay, two years na kami, hindi nakapasok dun sa sinabi nung—naku, naku.’ Ta’s parang nandun ‘yung mga signs eh,” she said.

[I said to myself, 'we're already two years so it doesn't seem like — oh no. And then the signs were there.]

She gave herself a deadline. If John doesn't propose by December of that year, "parang ayoko na," she said. "Parang forever single na lang talaga ako," Isabelle continued.  

But John more than made the deadline. In September 2014, the actor/director finally popped the question, surprising her with a flash mob dance in a Quezon City Mall. 

“‘Yun lang ‘yun," Isabel nearly laughs at herself. "Ang babaw ng dahilan ko noon,” she added.

When asked what they think about proposals initiated by the woman, the couple said that it is now a common thing.

“Actually, meron na. May mga kilala ako, nagpaparinig ‘yung babae, sila pa talaga,” John said. “Kwentuhan sa barkada, ‘Ewan ko ba dito, ito na lang hinihintay. Ako, ready na eh.’ So, I mean, it’s a good sign, like kung lalaki ka, ano pa nga bang hinihintay mo, ‘di ba?”

But for them, they would still rather have it the way they did it.

“For me lang, ako, gusto ko talaga siya ‘yung mag-propose (For me, I wanted him to propose to me),” Isabel said.

“Ako rin. Parang hindi ko ma-imagine na ano ‘yung take ko, ‘pag siya ‘yung nagyaya sa’kin? (Same. I can't imagine Isabel proposing to me)” John said.

Isabel however acknowledged that relationships are different. “Kung saan ka magwowork,” Isabel said.

“Kasi 'di 'ba ang babae, ‘pag tinanong mo siya, ang takot mo, kung ready ba siya. Kung ako tatanungin mo, ganun din, parang ready ba ‘ko? Ano bang pakiramdam ng kailangan mo na ‘yung sagot ko ngayon ‘di ba? So parang yeah, I think it's interesting,” John said.

Isabel and John tied the knot in May 2015.

They have three children: Feather, Freedom, and Forest.
