'The Boy and the Heron' receives BAFTA nomination for Best Animated Film

"The Boy and the Heron" has been nominated for Best Animated Film in the upcoming British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Awards.

Its fellow nominees include "Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget," "Elemental," and "Spider-man: Across the Spider-Verse."

Directed by Hayao Miyazaki, "The Boy and the Heron" was released last year, 10 years after the famed Japanese director's last film, "The Wind Rises."

Earlier this month, the film won the Best Animated Motion Picture award at the Golden Globes, the first for a Studio Ghibli film.

"The Boy and the Heron" follows a young boy who lost his mother in the bombings of Tokyo during World War II. When he and his father move to the countryside, he encounters a talking heron which leads him to another world with the promise of meeting his mother again.

The BAFTA Awards will be held on February 18.
