Boobay, Tekla weigh in on political correctness in comedy, turn to self-deprecating jokes

Comedic duo Boobay and Tekla are among the country's most popular comedians, known for their witty jokes and banter that make their audience laugh.

On Wednesday's episode of "Fast Talk with Boy Abunda," the "The Boobay and Tekla Show" hosts were asked on their thoughts about the debate on political correctness and its effects on comedy.

"For me, Tito Boy, hindi. Kasi, you know what, if you're a comedian, there's thousands of ideas na puwede mong gawin," Tekla answered.

"Bakit 'yun talaga? Because that's a very sensitive matter eh. So, maraming ideas na puwede mong gawin," he continued.

Boobay agreed.

"Diyan pumapasok 'yung talagang magiging comedian ka kung ikaw ay sensitive dun sa audience na nasa harapan mo.

"Alam mo nang may kapansanan, bibira ka pa about kapansanan, 'di ba? Why do that 'di ba?" he said.

They said that making self-deprecating jokes helps them avoid letting out insensitive jokes.

"Kasi for me, Tito Boy, 'pag 'yung audience ko nilalait ko, I don't like kasi parang hindi deserve. So, para na lang wala, I had a supreme sacrifice to myself," Tekla said.

Tito Boy was impressed with the comedians' answers, especially that he believes "political correctness is not bad."

"Ito'y pagpapakita po ng ating sensibilidad, paggalang lalo na sa mga marginalized sectors," the King of Talk said.

Boobay and Tekla are celebrating the sixth anniversary of "The Boobay and Tekla Show."

On January 28, they will have an anniversary special episode featuring special guests.

"The Boobay and Tekla Show" airs every Sunday at 10:05 p.m.
