Inspiring artist in Cauayan, Isabela uses his feet to draw
Following his battle with tuberculosis meningitis, an artist from Cauayan, Isabela named Mark Agcaoili has been using his feet to bring his artworks to life.
In Kuya Kim’s report on “24 Oras,” Tuesday, Mark’s mom, Teresita, said that drawing had long been his talent.
“Dati niyang talent ito mula Grade 1 hanggang ngayon,” she said.
Mark was 14 years old when he suddenly got sick. Following this, Mark can no longer move his arms properly, and he can no longer speak.
The young artist eventually learned how to use his feet so he could continue making art.
According to Kuya Kim, although this is not common, there are some individuals who can learn to use their feet like their hands.
A person can do this depending on the flexibility, dexterity, or efficiency of their body.
For some, this ability comes naturally, but there are a few who can do it through practice and training.
“‘Yung mga ligaments o ‘yung mga litid, in certain stimulus, kaya nilang mag-expand at a certain limit. So ‘yung palagi itong ginagawa, nakakapag-adapt sila doon. ‘Yung lower extremities natin ang main function niya naman kasi talaga is for standing or balance. Kung gagamitin natin ‘yun for other uses, we really need to use it on a gradual, progressive na basis,” Dr. Wesson Pious Espiritu said.
Mark’s artworks are currently displayed at a mall in their province.
The earnings Mark makes from his sold artworks help with their family’s daily needs.
“Malaking tulong sa’min,” his mother said.
