Nearly 4,000 residents affected by flooding in Northern Samar receive assistance from GMA Kapuso Foundation

Almost 4,000 residents from Lope de Vega in Northern Samar who were recently devastated by flooding received help from GMA Kapuso Foundation.

According to “24 Oras,” Friday, some areas in the municipality looked as if they were rivers when heavy rains poured.

When the flooding finally subsided, the residents were left with nothing but pieces of wood after their homes were washed away.

“Masakit talaga ‘pag wala nang bahay kasi wala ka nang babalikan. Kung wala kang pera, saan ka kukuha? Lalo na ngayon, wala kaming mga trabaho,” Elma Atencio said.

[It really hurts when you no longer have a home because you have nothing to return to. If you don't have money, where will you get it? Especially now, we don't have jobs.]

They were unable to save their things as the flood started rising at dawn.

“‘Yung higaan namin, lumulutang na. Basa na ‘yung mga unan namin, ginising ko na sila, ‘Umalis na tayo kasi nandyan na ‘yung tubig,” she said.

[Our sleeping area is already floating. Our pillows are wet; I woke them up, 'Let's leave because the water is already here.']

Elma and her family have sought refuge at an evacuation center.

To help the residents, GMA Kapuso Foundation immediately went to the municipality to deliver relief goods, vitamins, and soaps to almost 4,000 individuals in Barangay Poblacion.

“May mangilan-ngilan talagang mga bahay na totally na-wash out. Marami pong landslide na nangyari lalong lalo na sa ating mga highway so we provided the security,” Ltc. Nasser De Ocampo Arojo (INF) PA said.

[There are a few houses that were totally washed out. Many landslides occurred, especially along our highways, so we provided security.]

“Nagpapasalamat po kami kasi nagbibigay sila ng tulong sa amin, nagbibigay sila sa amin ng lakas kasi nagbibigay sila sa amin ng pagkain,” Elma said.

[We are thankful because they provide assistance to us; they give us strength by providing us with food.]

The GMA Kapuso Foundation is accepting donations through bank deposits, Cebuana Lhuillier, GCash, Shopee, PayMaya, Zalora, MegaMart, Globe Rewards, Metrobank credit card, and Lazada.
