Nurture your kids' innovative minds

Nurture your kids' innovative minds

'Isip-bata,' a term once viewed with a negative connotation, is now a badge of honor, thanks to some innovative and creative kids who have proven that making a difference knows no age limits.

The Tang ‘Yan Ang Isip-Bata’ advocacy was a truly empowering movement to nurture children and prepare them for a better future. It played a pivotal role in shaping the concept of 'isip bata', emphasizing the value of embracing the youth’s innovative, creative, and open mindset. Tang knew that before we can bring about any tangible change, we must first transform the collective mindset of Filipinos.

The brand's recent eye-opening film challenged the negative stereotypes associated with ‘isip-bata’ by showcasing Jade Go Patawaran, a Grade 6 student who invented an early flood detection device. Jade's idea began as a simple school project, but with support and guidance, she has turned it into a valuable invention that can help many flood-prone communities today. The film illustrates the power of young minds to make a tangible impact in the world.

“That is why we want to break away from the negative perception of ‘isip-bata’ by being the voice of kids,” Chelsea Chu, Tang Brand Manager explains. “By empowering and inspiring them to create and showcase their brilliant ideas so that they can make a difference in the community.”

The film coincides with a series of social posts that highlights the issue, as well as billboards along EDSA.   These sparked conversations from netizens and the public as they shared their own positive thoughts and experiences about the term ‘isip-bata’. Through these discussions, we see the transformative impact of the Tang ‘Yan Ang Isip-Bata campaign on a broader scale.

The campaign did not stop there. Another initiative is the first-ever Tang ‘Yan Ang Isip-Bata’ Kidnovator Camp, a 3-day workshop that places innovation at the forefront of childhood education. The camp brought together 36 aspiring young inventors ages 8 to 13 from Metro Manila with a shared mission: to repurpose Tang packs and address the lack of electricity in remote areas. Guided by expert mentors, the young participants worked in teams, turning their ideas into tangible solutions.

The Tang ‘Yan Ang Isip-Bata’ Kidnovator Camp recognized the top three groups with the most innovative inventions. Groupmates Jameela Caborda, Jude Isaac James, John Victorio, Jr. and Luigi Suanson took home the 2nd runner-up award for their dual portable Solar and Wind Generator, while Hisham Narag, Philip Miguel Madelo, Jaeden Grant Beraquit, and Shaina Rain Villanueva were declared 1st runner-up for their Multi-use Super Turbine, a mini windmill that can be used for both air and water.

Meanwhile, Jeanine Faith Refran, Jindrich Queen Naomi Bernabe, Jasmine Gimoro, and John Raine Pablo bagged the Grand Prize with their Salt, Magnesium, and Carbon-activated lamp, becoming the first first-ever Tang Kidnovator Camp Champions.

Jade, who dropped by on the last day of the camp to cheer her fellow Kidnovators, has this to say: “Always keep inspiring and if you have something in your mind, always put it into action,” the young inventor encouraged the other kids. “Make it come to life!”

The Kidnovators’ inventions were also shared with the public in an interactive Tang ‘Yan Ang Isip-Bata Exhibit held at Trinoma Mall. Aside from the winning inventions, the space featured more popular inventions by kids throughout history such as the Braille writing system and the swim fins. Mall-goers left positive comments on the freedom wall included in the exhibit, expressing their admiration for the young inventors.

Ultimately, the Tang ‘Yan Ang Isip-Bata campaign has sparked a paradigm shift, proving that within each child lies a universe of potential that is waiting to be nurtured. It’s an open invitation for everyone to keep showcasing and celebrating the wonders of 'isip bata' for a brighter, more imaginative future.
