Clogged, garbage-filled creek in Makati transformed into clean park
A clogged and garbage-filled creek in Makati City received a beautiful transformation after it was turned into a clean, pleasing park.
According to Marisol Abdurahman's report on "24 Oras," Tuesday, the river in Barangay San Isidro can hardly be seen before due to the thick garbage and heaps of litter found in the area, where informal settlers also live nearby.
After receiving a makeover, Estero Tripa de Gallina is now a clean and beautiful one-kilometer park.
Apart from its landscape that gives off K-drama feels, the park also has a playground, exercise equipment, and a greenhouse.
To further clean up its water, a sewerage treatment plant will be built.
The upgrading is part of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority's flood control project, which is funded by the World Bank.
"Minabuti natin na lagyan ng park para po may lugar na pupuntahan ang ating mga kababayan," MMDA Chairman Don Artes said.
The project is expected to help in reducing the flooding problem in Metro Manila. More than 240 families were also evacuated from the area.
The linear park was formally turned over to Barangay San Isidro on Tuesday.
"Ang suporta naman po ay buo at sa katulad ng kahit na anong ipinagkakatiwala, siguradong pangangalagaan," Makati City Vice Mayor Monique Lagdameo said.
The park is open to the public for free starting at 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.
