Miel Pangilinan posts empowering message for Pride Month: 'You are valid and you are loved'
Miel Pangilinan shared an empowering message for the LGBTQIA+ community in time for Pride Month.
In an Instagram poto, the 18-year-old daughter of Sharon Cuneta and Kiko Pangilinan posed with rainbow flags in the background. In her message, Miel said that this month, she is “celebrating: queerness, identity, sexuality, love, and people.”
She reminded her followers that although pride is a time for celebration, togetherness, and happiness, “we must also remember that there is still so much we are fighting for as a community in this country.”
These are the rights to safety, marriage, and many more.
“[Now] is the month to show who we are, to show that we exist, and that nobody will silence us or make us feel ashamed in ourselves for being who we are,” she said.
“[I] am here. [I] exist. [I] have been here. [I] have existed. [I] am a queer [Filipino] who is proud to be a member of this beautiful, long-standing community,” she added.
Miel also gave a message to the LGBTQIA+ community and allies.
“[To] my closeted queers, to my out queers, to my allies, have a safe, happy, and napaka-bonggang-bonggang pride month! [I] love you all,” she said. “[Love] and identity have no boundaries, and exist in no binary. As long as you are happy and keeping other people around you safe, you are valid and you are loved.”
Miel ended her message by saying, “mabuhay mga bakla!!”
In 2022, Miel bravely came out as queer. That same year, she appeared on the cover of one of the country’s top fashion magazines.
She recently attended prom and graduated from high school.
