Are eyelash extensions worth it? Here are its pros and cons

Eyelash extensions are one of the most famous breakthroughs in the beauty industry in recent years, all thanks to the dramatic lashes trend popularized in South Korea and Japan.

It's a procedure in which synthetic or natural fibers are applied to your natural lashes using an adhesive to enhance the length, curl, fullness, and overall appearance of your lashes.

With advancements in lash extension techniques and materials, such as lighter adhesives and more realistic-looking synthetic fibers, the popularity of eyelash extensions continued to rise.

Getting an eyelash extension is not as affordable as buying a tube of mascara that could last for up to three months or less, so the million-dollar question is: are eyelash extensions worth the hype?

For this writer who has been regularly treating her lashes with eyelash extensions monthly, the answer is an easy yes, but it has its pros and cons.

Pros

Time-saving: When you have eyelash extensions, you can eliminate putting on mascara for your makeup routine. It's a quick and easy hack to achieve a polished and put-together look.

Enhanced lashes: Eyelash extensions can provide a more dramatic and glamorous look to your lashes, making your eyes appear more open, awake, and defined. While putting on mascara do all these things as well, eyelash extensions don't smudge, clump, and require reapplication from time to time.

Long-lasting: Once applied, eyelash extensions can last several weeks before needing a touch-up. This means you can wake up with beautiful lashes without the daily effort of applying and removing mascara.

Cons

It's not cheap: Getting eyelash extensions, especially in the Philippines, is not cheap. The price ranges from P2,000 to P6,000, depending on the salon and the quality and type of eyelash extensions you'll avail.

Allergic reactions: Some people may be allergic or sensitive to the adhesive or materials used in eyelash extensions, so we highly recommend going to an established salon with high-quality materials. In the Philippines, Ayumi is one of the salons that offer soft, cruelty-free, and easy-to-maintain lash extensions with materials from Japan. Plus, it's Filipino-owned!

Risk of damage to natural lashes: If eyelash extensions are not applied or maintained correctly, there is a risk of damage to your natural lashes. This can include breakage, thinning, or premature shedding of your natural lashes. Again, we recommend choosing a skilled and experienced lash technician to minimize risk.

Several Ayumi salons are located in Metro Manila, including BGC, Pasay, Makati, and Alabang.
