GMA News Online's Eleksyon 2022 graphics a finalist at SOPA awards

GMA News Online has been named an award finalist for the Society of Publishers in Asia (SOPA) 2023 Awards for Editorial Excellence.

The Kapuso news website is a finalist for the category Excellence in Information Graphics (Regional/Local) for Eleksyon 2022, the website it mounted for the national elections of the past year.

Developed by GMA New Media, Eleksyon 2022 featured three apps that allowed users to see the elections in a bigger picture.  

First, it visually presented the election results with a unique visual representation showing the number of votes they received per region, adjusted for their population to reflect the voting power of each area.

With the help of GMA News Research team meanwhile, Eleksyon 2022 also had a nifty easy-to-use app, where viewers can easily see the candidates' stand on issues. The app complemented the dedicated section on candidate’s profiles where their details like their educational background, past projects, authored laws, and owned properties were presented. 

Finally, Eleksyon 2022 featured an interactive app, where users can see and break down registered voters' profile by gender, by age group, and by civil status down to the city level. 

Eleksyon 2022 was commended by social media users for presenting vast information about the national polls on a single platform.

Eleksyon 2022 goes up against Chinese online magazine Sixth Tone for two different projects it mounted in the past year. 

This honor comes at the same time as the 25th anniversary of the awards organized by the Society of Publishers in Asia.

SOPA was established in 1999 to recognize and reward great journalism. Winners will be announced at an in-person event at the JW Marriott Hong Kong on June 15. — Nika Roque/LA, GMA Integrated News
