Lea Salonga performs at White House state dinner for South Korean president


Lea Salonga performed at the prestigious White House state dinner for South Korea President Yoon Suk Yeol.

Yoon and First Lady Kim Keon Hee are on a state visit in the United States in celebration of the the 70th anniversary of the alliance between US and the Republic of Korea.

Tony-nominee Norm Lewis and former "Wicked" star Jessica Vosk performed with Lea at the state dinner.

"I'm beyond honored to have been invited by President and Doctor Biden to perform at the White House," Lea told NBC News.

"As we head into AAPI [Asian American Pacific Islander] Heritage month, Asian Americans continuing to be represented on a global scale is so important, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to help in that representation at such an important event," Lea added.

Among other guests, Hollywood star Angelina Jolie graced the dinner with son Maddox Jolie-Pitt, whom she adopted from Cambodia.

Previous celebrities who have performed at the White House include Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Beyoncé, and Jennifer Lopez.

Lea is best known for her Tony Award-winning role in "Miss Saigon." She was also the first Asian to play Eponine in the musical, "Les Miserables," on Broadway.

Disney fans know Lea as the singing voice of Princess Jasmine from "Aladdin" and Fa Mulan for "Mulan" and "Mulan II."

Lea is set to return to Broadway with the musical "Here Lies Love."
