Angelique Manto says joining Miss Universe Philippines is an ode to her younger self
Angelique Manto, a former UAAP courtside reporter turned lifestyle content creator, is one of the official candidates for Miss Universe Philippines 2023.
On Sunday, the Pampanga-born beauty queen dedicated her MUP candidacy to her younger self, her father, mental health, and her "beloved Pampanga."
Angelique posted a close-up portrait of herself showing off her morena skin and strong Filipina face features, along with a sentimental caption on Instagram.
"This is for that [seven-year-old] girl bullied into believing that she will never amount to the big dreams she has," she wrote. "This is for you silently struggling and battling to be seen, to be heard, to finally be understood."
"This is for the fulfillment of promises once made that will continue to live on," the 26-year-old beauty queen added.
Angelique concluded her post by expressing her excitement to tell her story as she "journey on to the universe."
After filing her application last week, Angelique said that joining Miss Universe Philippines is her "biggest dream."
Angelique was the University of Santo Tomas' former courtside reporter during UAAP Seasons 78 and 79. "Ibalik ang korona sa España" was her most iconic line during one of the games, which resurfaced on TikTok and became one of the trending audios on the app in 2022.
