How do conjoined fruits come about? Kuya Kim explains
Ever wondered why there are products that have two fruits in one?
As seen on Kuya Kim’s “24 Oras” report Tuesday, an almost 14-inch conjoined banana and 11 puso ng saging fruits caught attention in Ilocos Sur and South Cotabato, respectively.
Kuya Kim said this may be caused by the non-separation of its flowers during fruit development.
“Yung ganitong types ng saging, tinatawag na French Horn na plantain type so nagdi-differ siya do’n sa available sa market kasi mas mahaba siya,” agricultural biotechnologist Kohlin Lallabban said.
The plantain variety of bananas may be green or yellow. Its skin is thick which makes it ideal for cooking.
Meanwhile, bananas are expected to grow well in places that are 25 to 30 degrees Celsius in temperature.—Franchesca Viernes/LDF, GMA Integrated News
