When did the Grand Marian Procession in Intramuros begin?
By GMA Integrated News
The Grand Marian Procession has been a yearly tradition for devotees, but when did it begin?
According to Kuya Kim’s “24 Oras” report Thursday, it was first organized in 1979 and has since been done annually. The 41st edition was done Sunday to mark the Feast of the Immaculate Conception.
“Nung Linggo, yung mga virgin na crowned by Papal Edict, ‘yon ang kasali sa procession,” said Jaime Laya, founding member of Cofradia De La Inmaculada Conception.
The Grand Marian Procession lasted for five hours in Intramuros.
Meanwhile, Kuya Kim said processions aren’t done only during fiestas but also when praying for rain, good weather, during war and calamities, among others.—Franchesca Viernes/LDF, GMA Integrated News
