Here’s how you can succeed in the egg drop test
We all know how fragile eggs are, but there is a way to keep it intact even if it falls from a building.
As seen on Kuya Kim’s “24 Oras” report on Tuesday, students from University of the Philippines Cebu have been doing the egg drop test, where they throw eggs to the ground from the third floor.
They had to ensure that the egg would stay in shape despite force by using materials such as foam, cardboard, sticks, and bubble wraps.
This exercise was part of their packaging design class, where their professor Fidel Ricaflanca wanted them to get “accustomed to actual materials.”
Fortunately, the students all succeeded in using the right materials and structure for their projects.
According to William Turnbull of Adamson University’s Mathematics & Physics Department, momentum is important in doing this kind of test and gave an example.
“Maglalagay tayo ng parachute. Mapapababa natin ang force sa pamamagitan ng pagtaas ng contact time sa pamamagitan ng mga bagay,” he said.—Franchesca Viernes/LDF, GMA Integrated News
