Can the Bilawa Mainit Hot Waterfalls in Davao de Oro cure illnesses?

Is it true that the Bilawa Mainit Hot Waterfalls in Brgy. Mainit, Maco, Davao de Oro can cure illnesses?

On Kuya Kim’s “24 Oras” report Tuesday, barangay captain Michelle Lim said the attraction promotes “wellness.” Others also believe that it helps with whatever they’re suffering from.

One of those who go to the falls is Nelson Cruz, who has asthma. According to him, “medyo gumaan ang pakiramdam ko” since he started bathing there.

General medicine physician Dr. Gerald Belandres said it’s possible that the falls can make someone feel better as it emits sulfur. It can also be harmful , however.

Meanwhile, PHIVOLCS science research specialist Raymond Maximo said the waterfall is hot because it is located at the “paanan” of Mt. Leonard Kniaseff, an active volcano.

Lalabas ‘to as mga hot springs.”—Franchesca Viernes/LDF, GMA Integrated News
