Christina Aguilera releases new, relevant music video for 'Beautiful'
On the 20th anniversary of her album "Stripped," Christina Aguilera released a new music video for her song "Beautiful," and it's as timely as ever.
For the 2022 version, young guys and girls are seen getting pressured by beauty standards imposed by social media. As they struggle to fit into what is deemed perfect, they later learn to accept themselves for who they are because they are beautiful.
The music video also has a call to action at the end. "In the last 20 years, since 'Stripped' was released, social media has transformed our relationships with our bodies, and in turn, our mental health," the text read.
It also cited research that time spent on social networking sites is associated with issues in body image, self-harm, and disordered eating among the youth. It invited viewers to visit christinaguilera.com for mental health information and resources.
"This needs to change," the text said.
Christina talked a bit more about the song and music video's message in an Instagram post.
"Today, it's harder than ever to hear our own voice amongst so many others infiltrating our feeds and minds with mixed messaging... ultimately leading us to [tune out] our own truth and [self-worth]," the popstar said.
She added that "Beautiful" still has an important message "to remember our core values outside of what's being fed to us... to find a sense of balance and accepting ourselves for who we are."
