Why Ebe Dancel stays in music

With his decades-long career, his songs still being played everywhere, and with the immense support of his fans, Ebe Dancel remains grateful that he still gets to release music and perform.

Right after the listening session of his latest EP “Habangbuhay,” we had to ask the OPM legend why he continues on with music.

“Personally, I think [music is] why God put me here,” Ebe told GMA News Online in an exclusive interview. “I tried day jobs. I didn't really excel in school. I kept jumping from one job to the next. I couldn't hold on to one,” he said.

“And then yung music biglang humaba yung pasensya ko," he added.

Ebe said he would want to tell his younger self to be patient and trust the process.

He added that this profession is definitely his true purpose.

“That’s why I'm here—to make music and perform it in front of a live audience," he said. “I’ll do it as long as God tells me to do it. Maririnig ko naman Siya pag sinabi Niyang ‘okay na, pwede ka na magpahinga.’”

Asked how the never-ending support makes him feel, the singer-songwriter said with a laugh, “Umaabot na sa puntong nakakalimutan ko na yung mga lumang kanta."

“Siguro edad na rin, pero masyado nang matagal yung career ko and for that I'm really grateful that they still give me the opportunity to make new music even after all these years,” he added.

“Habangbuhay” by Ebe Dancel is now out on vinyl as the collaborative effort of Widescope Entertainment and Backspacer Records. —JCB, GMA News
