What Ebe Dancel would tell his younger self
If you would tell the younger Ebe Dancel that he'd one day be known as an OPM legend, he wouldn’t believe you.
From his start as the vocalist of rock band Sugarfree to his solo work today, the musician said that he had absolutely no idea that he would make it this far.
In an exclusive interview with GMA News Online, Ebe said that when Sugarfree just started, he spent his life savings to make a demo, which was very expensive to make back then.
“We wanted to be part of the lineup of Mayric’s, ‘70s Bistro, Freedom Bar. Ganun kababaw yung mga pangarap namin nung simula,” Ebe said during the listening session of his EP “Habangbuhay,” which is released on vinyl.
“Twenty-plus years later, my eyesight’s definitely poorer but I’m still here [and] very, very grateful," he added.
Seeing that Ebe has achieved so much more than what his younger self would have thought, we had to ask what he would tell this past version of himself.
“Maging patient ka sa sarili mo. Kasi yung dadaanan mo talaga, mahirap,” he said.
“Hanggang ngayon, mahirap pa rin minsan, but the chance to make other people happy—wag mo sanang kakalimutan yun. Yun ang puno’t dulo talaga. Aside from glorifying God, give people something to look for," he added.
“Habangbuhay” by Ebe Dancel is now out on vinyl as the collaborative effort of Widescope Entertainment and Backspace Records. —JCB, GMA News
