Taylor Hawkins' son plays the drums at Foo Fighters' tribute concert
Taylor Hawkins’ son Shane played the drums at a tribute concert for his father at the Wembley Stadium in London.
The 16-year-old joined rock band Foo Fighters for a performance of their classic hit “My Hero.”
“Ladies and gentlemen, we have one more drummer joining us tonight. And let me tell you, I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone hit the drums as hard as this person,” Dave Grohl said before Shane took the stage.
“But beyond that, he’s a member of our family and he needs to be here tonight with all of us. And I think it makes sense that he’s gonna come up and play with us tonight,” the Foo Fighters frontman added.
The band members looked proudly on at Shane throughout the emotional tribute, most especially during his drum solo.
Shane was also given a lot of hugs backstage after the performance.
Online comments say that they got chills and ended up crying after watching the video because Shane truly gave his all. Netizens also said that Taylor would be so proud of his son.
The next Taylor Hawkins Tribute Concert will be held on September 27 at the Kia Forum in California. Both dates featured guest artists in the lineup.
Taylor died in March at 50 years old, which came as a shock to the music world. A cause of death was not given, but toxicology tests found 10 substances in his system. —Nika Roque/JCB, GMA News
