Jo Koy shares what he loves most about being Filipino, and it’s not just adobo
A week before he comes back to the Philippines for his Funny is Funny world tour, Jo Koy caught up with GMA News Online via Zoom.
Aside from talking to him about his humble beginnings, dealing with rejection, and getting his work out on Netflix, we asked the Filipino-American comedian about his favorite part about being Pinoy — of course, apart from his usual takes on adobo and Vicks Vaporub.
Jo Koy shared that what he loves most would be how Filipinos both love to be entertaining and to be entertained. It also doesn’t matter if this happens with the people we love or those we just met.
“We're very entertaining people and we're very loving. And we love that,” the Filipino-American stand-up comic said.
“We love to be able to meet new people where [for example,] they're the new person at work, we’d love to, like, bring food and socialize and entertain, and I love that," he added.
Jo Koy also said that he gets this gift and love for entertainment from his mom’s side, who is a full Filipina.
“[Our love for entertainment] shows. When you go to the Philippines, you just see how talented Filipinos are. It's pretty amazing. You know, I make jokes about it, but it's very true,” he said.
“You can go to any Filipino party and you'll get at least six singers out of that family. Good singers too—not just pretty good, like really, really good. And very funny. We love to be funny. So you know, I get all that from them," he added.
Jo Koy’s Funny is Funny show happens on August 31 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena. —JCB, GMA News
