Beatrice Luigi Gomez graduates from University of San Jose-Recoletos
Beatrice Luigi Gomez has graduated from University of San Jose-Recoletos!
In the commencement exercises held on Friday, the Miss Universe Philippines 2021 traded her sash and crown for a toga and a cap as she marched along with the other graduates.
The beauty queen, who earned a mass communication degree, also delivered a speech as the Most Outstanding Graduate. She spoke of the challenges of having to pause her studies not just once, but twice.
"I took the regular program hoping that I would finish my studies along with my batchmates but God had me take a different path," Beatrice said.
"There were life lessons I had to learn first in order for me to value and earn where I am today. I was already in my last year of college when I had to leave school because of an opportunity that I had to take," she continued.
Beatrice said she went into public service and did not resume her education for a while. Even so, finishing her degree remained important to her.
"Had I ever been discouraged? Many times. It was a constant struggle because I only had more year left to finish college," she said. "It was like my degree was so close yet so far at hand."
Beatrice said the pandemic gave her the chance to once again focus on her studies, but the representing her hometown in the Miss Universe Philippines and later her country in the Miss Universe pageant was difficult to resist.
"Even as I was in that competition, I had that urge of wanting my degree done. So the moment I got back from that competition, I focused on what needs to be prioritized and now I am finally here with all of you."
On Instagram, Beatrice shared a photo of her in campus and thanked the USJ-R for shaping the woman she has become.
"This is where I learned to break barriers and empower lives. I owe most of my successes to the people who taught me the values that I needed in order to not just withstand but outstand life," she said.
Congratulations, Beatrice!
