What to do when you get a bee sting? Kuya Kim explains

Bee stings may be hard to deal with especially with the swelling and pain, so how is this treated?

According to Kuya Kim on “24 Oras” Tuesday, the first thing to do is remove the stinger then put ice on the affected area. Drinking antihistamine or pain reliever is also suggested for swelling and itch.

Those in a severe condition or experiencing symptoms of anaphylaxis, meanwhile, should immediately seek emergency treatment from a medical professional.

People experience swelling when they get stung because of the bee’s venom.

“Iyong bee venom, mayroong iba’t-ibang klase ng peptides. Isa sa mga peptides na ’to yung melittin [na] isang major pain-causing substance,” said entomologist Dr. Amelia Nicolas.

In Davao de Oro, a man named Rogin Luzon was stung after he accidentally hit a beehive while cutting grass. His lips swelled and he described the feeling as “mainit, parang sinisindihan ng apoy iyong nguso mo.”

Having gone through the experience, Luzon said he would be more careful next time. – Franchesca Viernes/RC, GMA News
