Where did former Philippine presidents hold their inauguration?
Days before President-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. swears into office, here’s a refresher on where the country’s former presidents held their inauguration.
As reported by Mark Salazar on “24 Oras” Tuesday, Marcos’ inauguration will be held at National Museum on Thursday. Those who marked their first days as chief of the country at the same venue were Manuel Quezon (1935), Jose Laurel (1943), and Manuel Roxas (1946).
Quirino Grandstand has witnessed the most number of presidential inaugurations in the Philippines, starting from 1949 with former President Elpidio Quirino.
He was followed by Ramon Magsaysay (1953), Carlos Garcia (1957), Diosdado Macapagal (1961), Ferdinand Marcos Sr. (1965, 1969, 1981), Fidel Ramos (1992), and Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III (2010).
While Joseph Estrada (1998) swore as president at Barasoain Church and Gloria Arroyo (2004) in Cebu, they both delivered their inaugural speeches at Quirino Grandstand.
Some of the country’s chiefs had their inauguration at the Malacañang Palace, such as President Rodrigo Duterte in 2016.
Meanwhile, the only president who has his inauguration outside the country was Sergio Osmeña, who was sworn into office in Washington, D.C.
Incoming Philippine presidents have the freedom to choose where they will hold their inauguration.
