GMA Kapuso Foundation to help rebuild schools damaged by Odette in Southern Leyte, Surigao del Norte

GMA Kapuso Foundation will be helping rebuild four schools damaged by Typhoon Odette in Southern Leyte and Surigao del Norte under its Kapuso School Development Project.

According to a “24 Oras” report on Wednesday, Baybay Elementary School in Siargao will have four classrooms and four rest rooms, while Cabitoonan Elementary School will have three of each.

In Leyte, meanwhile, New Malangza Elementary School in Liloan will come with three classrooms and comfort rooms, while Magallanes Elementary School in Limasawa will have four of each.

“Solid concrete iyong ating mga walls and talagang gagamit tayo ng standard and quality materials para maging mas resilient iyong ating classrooms,” said GMA Kapuso Foundation senior project engineer Ed Eniego.

For this project, four container vans full of construction materials including plywood, steel bars, and pipes have been transported from Manila to Leyte by Meridian Shipping and Container Carrier Inc.

From Leyte, these were brought together with gravel and sand from Concrete Stone Corp. to the islands of Siargao and Limasawa.

“We’re happy to share our aggregates amounting to 3.8 million including delivery and some construction materials,” said Concrete Stone Corp. President Noel Jesus Santiago.

“I think this will be a long partnership because it’s in line with the vision and mission of the company.”

The Philippine Navy also brought 700 bags of cement from Cemex Philippines Foundation.

“It’s a big logistical undertaking and thank God, natapos rin. That’s why we will soon begin construction in Limasawa. This is the first school na itatayo natin devastated by Typhoon Odette,” said Rikki Escudero-Catibog, EVP/COO of GMA Kapuso Foundation.
