Sharon Cuneta's daughter Miel Pangilinan comes out in time for Pride Month
Miel Pangilinan, the second daughter of Megastar Sharon Cuneta and Senator Kiko Pangilinan, came out as a member of the LGBT community just in time for Pride Month.
On Instagram Tuesday night, the 17-year-old revealed that she spent her childhood exploring her gender and sexual identity, so she was happy to share that she has arrived at a place where she’s “comfortable enough” in who she is.
“[This June,] I am celebrating my first pride month as openly and publicly queer,” Miel began, adding that her coming out was equally emotional and liberating.
“I’m endlessly thankful to my close friends and family who have supported me and shown me love as [I’ve] grown and explored my own gender and sexual identity,” she added.
Miel also acknowledged that not all members of the LGBTQIA+ community could safely celebrate their identity, and with her privilege, she remained “incredibly thankful.”
She also said that she still has a lot to learn and understand as a new member of the Filipino queer community, but she is open to learning as much as she can.
“I’m trying my best to educate myself on current situations and present issues relating to gender equality and LGBTQ+ rights in our country,” she said.
To end her post, she greeted all the members of the queer community with, “happiest and safest of pride months, allies and members of the queer community alike.”
In the comments section, Miel’s sister Frankie Pangilinan, cousins Kiana and Gab Valenciano, and Judy Ann Santos expressed their support and love. —Hermes Joy Tunac/JCB, GMA News
