How to get rid of gamu-gamo? Kuya Kim shares tips

Have you ever experienced a swarm of moths or gamu-gamo? Here’s how you can get rid of it.

On Wednesday’s “24 Oras” report, Kuya Kim said you may try the “lightbulb-and-mirror” trick using a basin filled with water. Put it in an area populated by the insects.

“Ang mga gamu-gamo, maa-attract sa reflection ng bumbilya sa tubig at sila’y malulunod,” he said.

According to Kuya Kim, these insects are possibly attracted to light because they use it to move, to navigate, or as a safety signal when there are predators.

Meanwhile, entomologist Dr. Orlando Calcetas said gamu-gamo usually appeared when the rainy season was coming.

“Ito’y nagsi-signal na malapit na yung tag-ulan pero usually, lumalabas sila after mayroong malakas na ulan kasi lumalambot ’yung lupa, tumataas ’yung relative humidity,” he said. – Franchesca Viernes/RC, GMA News
