Here's what you need to know about the new P1,000 banknotes

By now, you might have gotten a hold of the new P1,000 bill, but do you know about its impressive features?

According to a report on "Dapat Alam Mo," it is the first-ever polymer banknote in the Philippines, made of synthetic polymer used to make plastic.

This means that it is waterproof — but according to the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), you shouldn't subject it to chemicals or submerge in water for too long.

More than that, the material makes it timely amidst the pandemic.

"Itong polymer banknotes, dahil sa kanyang materyal, hindi tumatagal ang virus," said BSP deputy director Atty. Sarrah Severino Curtis.

"Environmental-friendly siya, fully recyclable ang polymer banknotes natin," she added.

The new banknotes also have more "modern security" features that make it difficult to replicate.

It also has a new design featuring the Philippine eagle.

"Ang pag-design o pag-change ng polymer banknotes natin, ginagawa natin 'yan in a cylical manner. Ginagawa namin 'yan para maging mahirap siya i-replicate o i-counterfeit," Curtis said.

The BSP started rolling out the new P1,000 banknotes in late April. —JCB, GMA News
