GMA News Online managing editor among journalists in AAJA's 2022 executive leadership program
GMA News Online managing editor Jhoanna Lou Albano has been named among the fellows chosen for the joint US-Asia cohort of Asian American Journalists Association's (AAJA) 2022 Executive Leadership Program (ELP).
Albano manages the online news platform's lifestyle section, which serves as one of the public's sources of information about travel, culture, food, entertainment, and the like.
She is one of the 17 Asia fellows, which also include journalists from The New York Times, The World of Chinese, South China Morning Post, The Associated Press, and LinkedIn News, among others.
The United States, meanwhile, has 20 representatives from various news organizations including CNN, Vox, ABC News, The Seattle Times, and Lonely Planet.
According to the AAJA website, selected journalists will participate in various sessions to "level up their management, leadership, and professional development skills through hybrid learning."
The ELP is AAJA's signature program that "trains the next executive leaders in newsrooms." It is aimed at "developing the next generation of diverse journalism leaders who can lead in uncertain times and build a sustainable future for journalism."
Participants will be trained by experienced career coaches and senior news executives in exploring the "responsibilities and challenges of a media workplace" and "how to lead in the changing landscape and how cultural values come into play."
Previously, GMA digital media manager Bernice Marie Sibucao was named as a fellow of the 25th ELP last year.
