Siblings in Bohol study with banig instead of roof over their heads after Typhoon Odette

Melanie de Paz’s five children had no choice but to do their modules with a banig instead of a roof over their heads after their house was damaged by Typhoon Odette in December.

As seen on Tuesday’s “24 Oras,” the family based in Buenavista, Bohol, didn’t have enough income to get their house fixed as Melanie’s husband earned only PHP150 a day from his job at a wet market.

“Kinakasya nalang namin kasi mahirap talaga ang buhay,” said the mother.

Despite the challenges, her children continued to work hard for their family and their dreams of a better life.

The De Paz family was among the recipients of GMA Kapuso Foundation’s “Silong Kapuso” project, which installed a new roof at their home together with members of the 3rd Infantry Division of the Philippine Army.

“Nagpapasalamat ako na hindi na sila mahirapan sa pag-module kasi meron nang bubong ang bahay namin,” Melanie said.

GMA Kapuso Foundation is accepting donations through bank deposits, Cebuana Lhuillier, Shopee, GCash, PayMaya, Zalora, MegaMart, Globe Rewards, Metrobank credit card, and Lazada.
