Suman makers get grocery packs, health checkups care of GMA Kapuso Foundation
Makers of suman and other kakanin or rice cakes in Barangay San Jose, Antipolo City, Rizal, have received grocery packs and free health checkups care of GMA Kapuso Foundation.
As reported on “24 Oras” Tuesday, their livelihood was affected when the community quarantines were implemented at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The suman makers lost income for about two months as their store stopped operations due to the lockdowns.
This led store owner Ailyn Pesito to try selling suman online, where the business grew bigger.
“Noong nag-GCQ siya, naisip namin, i-online natin ito. Mag-try tayo ng konti. Noong tumatagal-tagal, mas lalong dumadami … dire-diretso na po hanggang sa lumaki na ’yung volume ng ginagawa namin,” she said.
To honor their hard work and in celebration of National Women’s Month, GMA Kapuso Foundation distributed to 100 female employees grocery packs, baked goodies, and face masks.
Around 50 women also availed of free health checkups such as pap smear and breast exams.
