GMA Kapuso Foundation grants wish of 70-year-old woman to have her own refrigerator
A 70-year-old woman is now a proud owner of a new refrigerator after asking for help from the GMA Kapuso Foundation.
According to a "24 Oras" report on Friday, Fermina Macallan and her family sold their house in Laguna and most of their things when the pandemic hit.
Fermina has been a canteen supervisor for 13 years, so she tried selling food online together with her daughter to earn some income.
They encountered a major difficulty in the small business, however, because they did not have a refrigerator where they can store their food.
The pair used to walk for miles to put their products in the fridge of a neighbor, but two days after their story aired on "24 Oras," the Kapuso Foundation made Fermina's wish come true.
Aside from the refrigerator, they received grocery packs and one-month supply of maintenance medicine for high blood pressure.
"Napakahalaga ma'am niyan kasi katulong ko 'yan sa paghahanapbuhay. Kung wala yan sira lahat ng pagkain mo," she after receiving the fridge.
["It's so important because it helps me make a livelihood. Without it, all your food would get spoiled."]
"Overwhelming. Napakasaya ma'm. Sa panahon ngayon di ko na mabibili ito," she added.
["Overwhelming. I'm so happy. During these times I would not be able to afford this."]
The GMA Kapuso Foundation is still accepting donations for the "Bisig Bayan" project through bank deposits, Cebuana Lhuillier, Shopee, GCash, PayMaya, Zalora, MegaMart, Globe Rewards, Metrobank credit card, and Lazada.
