Lugaw seller who lost arm due to firecrackers gets prosthetic limb from GMA Kapuso Foundation
A lugaw seller in Karuhatan, Valenzuela, who lost his left arm due to firecrackers has received a new prosthetic one from GMA Kapuso Foundation.
According to a “24 Oras” report Thursday, 53-year-old Lyndon lost his arm in 1990 due to a firecracker explosion. He has since found it hard to get employed because of his disability.
“Walang gustong tumanggap o mag-tiwala kasi nga isa lang ang kamay,” he said.
[No one wanted to hire or trust me because I had only one hand.]
Lyndon was able to put up his own lugaw shop. He used his right arm to prepare the ingredients and cook, while a stainless tool on his left hand also served as a fork.
After long years of use, however, the device on his left arm eventually wore out and began causing wounds.
Lyndon received a new prosthetic arm with the help of GMA Kapuso Foundation and LN-4 Foundation.
“Bukod do’n sa normal na prosthetic hands na binibigay natin, nag-improvise din tayo ng halos katulad din nung ginagamit niya na parang tinidor, para makatulong sa pagluluto niya,” said Anthony Untalan of LN-4 Foundation.
[Apart from the normal prosthetic hands that we usually give, we improvised and gave him one that works like the one he had been using, the one with a fork, to help him with his cooking.]
