Olango Islands’ Pan Bisaya makers struggle after Typhoon Odette

The makers of the popular Pan Bisaya delicacy in Olango Islands, Cebu, are still struggling more than a month after Typhoon Odette.

As reported on “24 Oras” Thursday, Olango Islands is known for its Pan Bisaya, which is made of flour, egg, sugar, and coconut, and baked in a “hurno” or a concrete oven.

A group in Olango called San Vincente Kababayen-an is known for making this sought-for pastry.

However, the members lost their livelihood when Typhoon Odette struck last month.

Virginia Tabar, one of the members, said she also lost her home due to the typhoon.

“Malaki ang epekto ng bagyong Odette dahil bumagsak ang aming tindahan, pati ’yung grupo naming kababaihan, kaya ngayon, wala kaming trabaho,” she said.

These days, Virginia continues to make a living by making kakainin, but admits it’s not enough for her family.

Olango Islands residents are among the 137,592 individuals who have received help from GMA Kapuso Foundation and its donors, sponsors, and partners.
