Typhoon Odette victims who lost homes, refuge in Siargao receive help from GMA Kapuso Foundation

Typhoon Odette victims who had suffered due to the loss of their homes and evacuation area in Burgos, Siargao, have received help from GMA Kapuso Foundation.

According to a “24 Oras” report Tuesday, among those heavily damaged by the typhoon was Baybay Elementary School, which served as the residents’ refuge during calamities.

With nowhere to go, the residents had no choice but to flee. Aivy Tulisana said her husband was one of the men who helped rescue others at the height of the typhoon.

“Sobrang lakas ng hangin. ’Yung bubong, talagang nag-liparan kaya ’yon, na-trap talaga kami. ’Yung iba, may sugat. ’Yung asawa ko, may sugat din. Sila ’yung nag-save sa ’min, ’yung mga lalaki,” she said.

[The wind was really strong. Roofs were flying all over, so we were trapped. Others had wounds, including my husband. The men were the ones who saved us.]

Lorena Lobino also recalled that her husband was injured.

“’Yung pinsan ko, nakita niya ’yung CR na marami nang dugo tapos ’yon pala, nasugatan na ’yung asawa ko,” she said.

[My cousin saw the bathroom filled with blood, then realized that my husband was wounded.]

Fortunately, both men are now in better condition, but the residents are still in need of essentials and a stable place to stay.

GMA Kapuso Foundation responded to their needs by distributing 8,552 food packs and hygiene kits.

For those who wish to help, GMA Kapuso Foundation is accepting donations through bank deposits, Cebuana Lhuillier, Shopee, GCash, PayMaya, Zalora, Mega Mart, Globe Rewards, Metrobank credit card, and Lazada.
