Can coins cost millions of pesos? Kuya Kim answers
Philippine coins or barya in Filipino usually have lower value than paper bills but according to Kuya Kim, some coins could even be valued at P1 million.
On "24 Oras," Kuya Kim said before Spaniards arrived in the Philippines, Filipinos used gold for their transactions but after the Philippines got colonized, they used bronze or barilla as currency.
Kyle Guianan, a numismatist or one who studies and collects coins and other currencies, said eventually, people called barilla as barya.
Archie Lugay, also a numismatist, said the Philippine 1903 S-20 Cents actually cost 1,700 dollars.
"Presyo siya ng mataas ang mintage niya 150,000 pieces and in good condition na may presyo siya ng 1,700 dollars," he said.
Kuya Kim also introduced the 1906 S US Philippine Peso Coin, which was dubbed as King of Philippine Peso.
