How is Simbang Gabi at the Manila Cathedral held this 2021?

It's Simbang Gabi season once again and Filipinos have flocked to the Manila Cathedral on its first day.

As seen on Mariz Umali's "24 Oras" report, Wednesday, visitors gathered in front of the church as they waited for the anticipated mass lead by Rev. Fr. Kali Pietre M. Llmado at 8 p.m.

Compared to 2,000 people before the pandemic, the Manila Cathedral can now accommodate only 380 fully-vaccinated individuals for Simbang Gabi, according to organizer John Felix Santos.

Seats are also numbered to ensure that only three people can sit on each row per column. Additionally, proper ventilation is observed by opening the cathedral's doors despite being air-conditioned.

Everyone is required to undergo a temperature check and present their QR codes upon entrance.

For those who can't go inside, meanwhile, markers shaped like parols are placed outside to ensure that social distancing is strictly followed. Two giant screens are also available to see the mass.

Aside from the giant nativity scene that was already placed outside for everyone to see, the church has also been lit with over 20 Christmas trees to make visitors feel the holiday season.

The first dawn mass will be held on the morning of December 16, Thursday, at 4:30 a.m. It will be led by Manila Archbishop Cardinal Jose Advincula.

Those at home can also attend the nine-day novena mass through the Manila Cathedral's Facebook and YouTube accounts.
